The Story of Foster Care
We're so excited to announce that the Story of Foster Care exhibit is now ready and touring Raleigh, NC!
The Story of Foster Care is a traveling exhibition put on by Empty Frames Initiative. Through the medium of photography itexplores the intricate, complicated world of
out-of-home care in the United States.
The artists: foster care alumni, social workers, and foster parents. The project explores the highs and lows, contrasting emotions, and the importance of hearing every individual’s perspective.
As much a part of the exhibit as the photographs on display are the written pieces. Some artists describe the journey in a narrative form while others use poetry to write the viewer into the story.
This exhibition is curated by Empty Frames Initiative, a non-profit that looks to empower orphaned and vulnerable youth as they transition out of state care. May 3rd launched a summer-long tour of this display at local churches, schools and businesses in the Raleigh area. Through this tour Empty Frames Initiative hopes to raise the funds to purchase their first facility, where youth aging out of foster care can receive training in life skills, counseling, community and knowledge of the gospel.
An accompanying book with more photos and stories will be available September 1st!
